Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

To facilitate safe disposal of hazardous household waste, Jones County will host a countywide collection event on April 8- 2017 from 8 am to noon at the Laurel Fairgrounds. The Jones County Household Hazardous Waste Program is a free program and a great opportunity for Laurel residents to dispose of their household hazardous waste in an environmentally friendly way.
This is the only county-wide household hazardous waste collection date scheduled for this year.
These items should be recycled:
Pesticides
Aerosol cans, paint, lead-based paint chips, solvent and thinners
Chemicals for pools, photography and other hobbies
Rechargeable tools, household batteries and lead-acid batteries
Consumer electronics such as:
- Televisions
- Computers
- VCRs and DVD players
- Phones
- Stereos
Media recycling such as:
- Audio
- Computer
- Video
- Cassette tapes
- VHS
- CDs
- Vinyl records
- Game cartridges and discs
Household hazardous wastes mercury items like
- CFLs, fluorescent and HID lamps
- Old thermostats and thermometers
Automotive wastes such as:
- Oil and oil filters
- Fuel additives
- Starter fluid
- Waxes
