Homeowner Rehabilitation Grant
The City of Laurel has been awarded a Homeowner Rehabilitation grant from the Mississippi Home Corporation, in the amount of $505,000. The purpose of this grant is to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing to low and very-low income homeowners. (We will provide the income limits at a later date).
The City will be announcing a public hearing in the near future and begin accepting applications, this will be sometimes in November. This hearing will provide you with all the details of the grant. The completed applications must be at the Home Corporation offices in Jackson no later than January 9, 2020.
In order to ensure that we meet the deadline for applications, prior to the public hearing you may want to begin to compile the necessary documentation that will be necessary to process your application, i.e., 1. At least three consecutive months of income verification. This can include such items as check stubs, Social Security payments, unemployment compensation statement, etc. These must be provided for each individual adult who resides in the residence. Homeowner’s application must certify in writing that the number of household members and gross income are correct. 2. The deed to the property. The name of the applicant must be on the deed. If more than one name is on the deed, they must reside in the home. If they do not reside in home, a quit claim deed may be acquired to deed it to the family member who resides in home. Property must have been owned by homeowner for at least one year. 3. Proof of current property tax and current property insurance. 4. Properties that participate in rehabilitation activity may have mortgages liens, but a letter from the mortgage company must verify current mortgage payments. 5. Properties submitted for reconstruction must be clear and free of any debt, mortgages, liens or land balances.
