Fire Academy for Kids
Laurel’s “Fire Academy for Kids” was the first educational event of its kind in the state of Mississippi. It was created and designed by Chief David Chance for children who either wanted to learn more about fire safety or were interested in firefighting as a possible career. Activities included learning home escape plans and other fore safety and prevention measures as well as how a firefighter spends a typical day at the station.
Numerous awards from across the state have been bestowed on the City of Laurel and the Laurel Fire Department because of this project. We look forward to bigger and better programs thanks to the inspiration of Chief David Chance and the Laurel Fire Department.
The 2008 Fire Academy for Kids is scheduled for July 21-25, 2008 at the Laurel Fire Department Training Facility on Hillcrest Drive. Application information is forthcoming.
