The City of Laurel received the 2009 Mississippi Parks and Recreation Association Award of Merit Class II for the 2009 Dixie Youth World Series. Many of the National, State and local Directors stated that this was the best World Series that they had ever attended from the Welcome Center to the Opening Ceremony to the tours and games. The 2009 World Series was the best – Southern Hospitality at its best.
The Dixie Youth Organization was founded in 1955 and currently boasts over 400,000 in 11 southern states. Laurel-Jones County currently has the largest league in the state of Mississippi with over 750 youth participating.
