Laurel Community Concert Association

In 1943, Sarah Washington, a representative of Community Concerts, arrived in Laurel to explore the possibility of forming a local association. After talking to several people, she asked Ruth Giles, Dorothy Cameron, Harriette Gibbons and Elizabeth Chisholm to assist her. The Laurel Community Concert Association was formed. Concerts were held in the Wisner Building auditorium and early series included such artists as Lily Pons, The Von Trapp Family Singers, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and many other outstanding performers. Mr. Harry Mittman and Mr. Tommy Tomlinson spent many hours installing acoustic panels in the auditorium to assure that the sound met the quality of the performances.

Today the Association is made up of subscribers from Laurel , Ellisville, Jones County, Wayne County and Jasper County. The Association is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and has 501C-3 non-profit status with all monies being raised from the annual subscription campaign and patron donations.

The Laurel Community Concert Association is the oldest presenting association in Laurel and as such is dedicated to providing the community with the highest quality of entertainment available. It has a very active student outreach program and is continually seeking new and innovative ways to accomplish its mission. Call (601) 425-4099 for more information.
