DESCRIPTION:The Art Talk at LRMA for February will be provided by Nash Nunnery\, author of Magnolia Gridiron Cathedrals. \nA proud native of the Mississippi Delta\, freelance writer Nash Nunnery has tapped into his love of vintage high school football fields in his home state for his first book\, Magnolia Gridiron Cathedrals. The hardback coffee table volume includes 47 essays written by Nunnery about classic stadiums in towns big and small that he found worthy of being called hallowed ground. Laurel’s famously iconic Watkins Stadium “Between the Bricks” is one of the fields featured. Join us as Nash discusses his debut book\, which has been ranked in the top 5 of the Jackson Clarion-Ledger’s “Mississippi’s Top Reads”. \n  \nThe art TALK programs are free and open to the public.\nNo reservations required. SUMMARY:Art Lecture at LRMA
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sandra Sider will present “Centennial to Bicentennial: Quilt Making in the United States\, 1876-1976.” Dr. Sider\, a past president of Studio Art Quilt Associates\, recently retired after 10 years as Curator for the Texas Quilt Museum. She edited Art Quilt Quarterly for six years\, and has published numerous articles and books on fiber and textile art for more than three decades. A studio quilt artist since the late 1970s\, she focuses on photographic processes in her work\, embellished with surface design techniques\, including hand embroidery. Her art quilts have been acquired by several museums and corporate collections.  She studied photography and printmaking in workshops at the School of Visual Arts (NYC) and Manhattan Graphics Center\, and has an MA in art history from the Institute of Fine Arts\, New York University\, and a PhD in comparative literature from the University of North Carolina.  From 2019 through 2022\, she taught the History of Textiles course for the MFA Textiles program at Parsons School of Design. \n  \nThe program is free an open to the public. The lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception to follow at 6:30 p.m.
