Laurel School District’s superintendent Dr. Toy Watts and her team have been heavily promoting their upcoming job fair for weeks in efforts to recruit more educators to their district.
“We have the math positions at the high school. We’re probably going to have a few other positions at the high school, some certified English social studies, science,” Watts said. “We’re always looking for certified people in specialized subject areas.”
Watts said on the day of their job fair, candidates with certain qualities will stick out. She outlines what they’re looking for.
“Ideal candidates are self-starters, hard workers, but number one they have to have a lot of heart. They have to have a passion for what they’re doing,” Watts said.
For folks in the Pine Belt interested in beginning a career in education, the superintendent said they should come and explore what the district has to offer.
“The date is February the 16 here in our board room from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Dress professionally. Dress to impress, because there is a possibility that we may be able to offer you a job on the spot,” said Watts.
She added that folks who attend may be pleasantly surprised by the benefits of teaching in Laurel.
