Laurel Parks & Recreation Hosts Successful Dance & Cheer Camp

IMG_5140At this year’s mini Dance & Cheer camp, July 22-25, hosted by the City of Laurel’s Parks & Recreation Department, there were 60+ enthusiastic kindergarten through fifth grade girls, each with the same intention: to get a chance to perform in front of an audience while giving Laurel some spirit.

It was agreed that the mini-camp cheerleaders learned surprisingly fast. During the week, the younger girls worked on either their cheers or dance routine, while the second through fifth graders worked on their routine.

The girls performed on Friday, July 25, at the Cameron Center before many family, and friends and showed off what they had learned. They well loud and spirited!

Dominique Evans, assistant coach, shared her thoughts. “The girls worked hard and they wore me out. I am happy that the camp was a success. I’m sure it will only get bigger next year as more people find out we are here.”

Being a cheerleader is about being peppy and getting the fans in the stands excited. And that was just what the mini camp was designed to do.

One cheerleader summed up the experience best, “I can’t wait until next year.”
