Several members of the Laurel Tree Board were at the 2016 Day in the Park recently. One the main focuses of the board is to conduct education and outreach about the importance of trees.
This year was no exception, as a designated “Tree City USA”, board members Larry Ronk, Carolyn Owens, Phyllis Cross and Dionne Rhodes spent time with children and the community providing information about trees. Every year, members of the Tree Board commit to planting and maintaining an urban forest that is safe, healthy, and diverse. Trees throughout the city provide a place in which our children may delight and learn how our urban forest is attractive to birds and other wildlife. Planting is an ongoing need in the urban forest, to replace diseased or dying trees, to supplement existing trees, and to landscape new areas. Each child was provided a coloring and activity book that highlighted each person’s role in keeping Laurel a proud Tree City USA.
