Mayor Magee Initiates Health Council

Posted on: August 6, 2015

Mayor Johnny Magee is calling on all residents, parents, business owners, health professionals, organizations, etc. to join him on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Laurel Train Depot at 5:30 to discuss creative ways to make Laurel a healthier place to live and work. It is the goal of Mayor Magee to lead Laurel to be one of the healthiest and most active communities in the state in which residents, groups and organizations work collaboratively to achieve targeted health and fitness goals through policy and environmental system changes which support increased access to physical activity, healthy foods and reduced exposure to tobacco smoke. The Mayor will be putting together a Health Council that will be divided into several committees that work together to achieve these goals. He is inviting the public to attend the first forum. The Mayor’s Office, in partnership with the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Office of Preventive Health, will hold the the forum to allow the community an opportunity to bring ideas about what a healthier Laurel looks like. Refreshments will be provided. For more information about participating in the Mayor’s Health Council, please contact the Office of the Mayor at 601-428-6401 or Paige Ward at 601-271-6099.
