In recognition of Constitution Week, Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee met with members of the Nahoula Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on Wednesday, September 14th at 9 a.m. to sign a proclamation declaring the week of September 17th through September 23rd as Constitution Week for the City of Laurel.
The proclamation read as follows:
Whereas, September 17, 2022, marks the two hundred, thirty-fifth anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation; and
Whereas, it is also fitting and proper to recognize officially the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and
Whereas, Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17 through September 23 as Constitution Week.
Now, therefore I, Johnny Magee, Mayor of the City of Laurel, Mississippi, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17-23, 2022, as Constitution Week in the City of Laurel, Mississippi, and ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained.
Witness my signature and the seal of the City of Laurel, Mississippi, this the 14th day of September, 2022.
