What inspired you to host/manage Airbnbs in Laurel, and what makes them unique?

Liz started hosting as a hobby—an opportunity presented itself, and she went for it. After winning the top Airbnb in the state two years in a row, people began reaching out to her for help with their own rentals. What started as a passion project quickly grew into a business, and I joined her in 2021.

For Liz, hosting is a way to share the town she grew up in, along with her childhood memories of Laurel, with our guests. For me, I love the connections we make and the chance to welcome people from all over the world!

What makes our properties unique is that each one has its own special touch. Some have been remodeled on “Home Town,” some are in prime locations within walking distance of everything, and others feature pools, great kitchens, cozy spaces, or unique art. We put a lot of thought into what we’d love to have when traveling and incorporate those details into our Airbnbs whenever possible. Each stay is designed to be a memorable experience in a great neighborhood or area.

How would you describe the romantic appeal of your property/properties?

Each of our properties has its own unique charm, but many offer a romantic appeal with upscale touches and cozy atmospheres. From stylish apartments with stunning views of Laurel—featuring king-size beds, luxe linens, and inviting furniture—to boutique-style spaces that offer a more intimate, curated experience than a traditional hotel, there’s something for every couple. For those seeking extra space, we offer full homes with relaxing spa-like bathrooms and spacious kitchens perfect for cooking a special meal together. And for a truly one-of-a-kind stay, we even have a grain silo turned into a two-bedroom house, ideal for those looking for a unique and unforgettable experience. No matter the style, each property is designed to ensure a memorable and comfortable stay.

What amenities or features do you offer that couples particularly enjoy?

Again, every property has its own unique charm, but we have several features that couples particularly enjoy. A few of our rentals have private pools, perfect for a secluded and relaxing getaway. Many guests love cozying up by the fireplace—whether it’s to watch a movie or simply unwind together without distractions. Some properties are tucked away in the woods, offering a peaceful retreat where couples can truly disconnect and enjoy each other’s company.

To make a stay even more special, we offer an add-on menu with thoughtful touches like fresh flowers, charcuterie boards, wine or cupcakes for special occasions. For couples who want a completely relaxing experience, we even provide the option for oven-ready meals, so they can enjoy a quiet night in without worrying about cooking.

We love helping create unforgettable moments—whether it’s setting up a romantic picnic in Gardiner Park, assisting with surprise proposals by highlighting the perfect spots around town, or adding personalized touches to celebrate a special occasion. Whether it’s a romantic weekend or a milestone event, we’re here to make every stay feel truly magical.

Are there any nearby restaurants or dining options you’d recommend for a romantic evening?

We provide our guests with a curated guide featuring all of our favorite places to eat, shop, and explore in Laurel. For a romantic dinner, we highly recommend The Loft, Mimmo’s, or Edgar’s Steakhouse—each offering a great atmosphere and delicious food. And no date night is complete without a stop at The Buzzard’s Roost for our favorite treat—the brown butter toffee cake!

Are there any insider tips or lesser-known attractions nearby that couples should check out?

Some lesser-known events in Laurel make for a perfect date experience. Enjoy live music at 320 Fifth Street for a relaxed night out, or spice things up with Buzzard Bingo at The Buzzard’s Roost, where the energy is high and the laughs are plenty. For something more intimate, book a tea party at The Bird Dog Café or take a scenic stroll through Landrum’s Homestead & Village, a recreated 1800s Southern town with seasonal events that bring history to life. Want a hands-on activity? Local artists Saron Henderson and Jeremy Brooke offer pottery workshops—check their Facebook pages for details, or book with us, and we’ll make sure you don’t miss out!

What are some of your favorite nearby spots for a pretty picnic or a quiet stroll?

For a picturesque picnic, Gardiner Park, Mason Park, and the park off of Euclid are all perfect spots to relax and enjoy the outdoors. If you’re looking for a peaceful stroll, simply wandering The Avenues and admiring the beautiful historic homes is a great way to unwind and take in the charm of Laurel.

Are there any local attractions or experiences you recommend for couples, like wine tastings or spa treatments?

For couples looking to unwind, Renew Medi Spa is the best spot for spa treatments, offering saunas, massages, and other relaxing services. If you’re after a unique experience, there are a few activities that require advance planning, such as private wine tastings at Cask and Barrel or enjoying an afternoon tea party at The Bird Dog. One thing about Liz—if you have a special request or an idea, she’ll do everything she can to make it happen!

In your opinion, what is the most romantic spot in Laurel MS, and why?

A horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown Laurel (especially during the Christmas season) is easily the most romantic experience in town. Cozy up with your sweetheart as you glide past historic buildings, charming storefronts, and twinkling string lights that illuminate the streets. With a glass of wine in hand and the crisp evening air setting the mood, it’s the perfect way to soak in the small-town magic and create a memory you’ll never forget.

Do you have any tips for couples planning a weekend retreat in the area?

Plan ahead! Make the most of your weekend by scheduling your trip around a fun Laurel Main Street event, like the Chili Cook-Off or a wine-down night. Many experiences, such as wine tastings and pottery classes, need to be booked in advance, so be sure to call us for help planning and securing reservations for these unique local activities. We’re here to make your stay stress-free and unforgettable!

Opened in 2023, the Laurel-Jones County Visitor Center is conveniently located off exit 95C when traveling on I-59. It is open to visitors Monday-Friday, 9AM-4PM, and Saturday, 9AM-3PM.

The Laurel-Jones County Visitor Center aims to aid each guest in finding the perfect accommodations to make their stay memorable. Our experts are ready to help you select your ideal dining options, plan both indoor and outdoor activities and so much more!

Ms. Patricia–one of the kind and welcoming faces you may see upon entering the Visitor Center–has agreed to share her experiences and expertise on all things Laurel for your planning pleasure. Ms. Patricia was born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, and has lived here most of her life. Since March, she has been working at the Visitor Center and shares her knowledge of the town with visitors and locals alike.

Upon entering the center, Ms. Patricia sees that most visitors are in awe of the building. As soon as you walk in “the history of the building is on display,” she says with pride in her voice. Lining the walls are famous faces and memorabilia that demonstrate how far Laurel and Jones County have come over the years. The facility was transformed recently from what used to be a public housing unit. A featured exhibit that you can explore is a restored apartment unit that was featured on an episode of HGTV’s “Home Town.”

People travel from all over to catch a glimpse of this happy community and experience the magic for themselves. “We greet them with a warm welcome and like to talk to them–ask them where they’re from,” she states. An important part of assisting guests is asking when they arrived. Ms. Patricia believes it’s best if visitors stop by the center before venturing out on the town, so she can give them pointers for when they are out and about. It allows her to get a feel of “where they are and what they are expecting” during their trip.

Ms. Patricia’s top recommendation for any traveler is a golf cart tour of the downtown historic district, because it “allows them to get a roundabout feel of the city, and to get to stop and take pictures,” she explains. It makes exploring the town accessible for everyone. Guests can also rent personal golf carts to enjoy the town at their leisure.

At the Visitor Center, each representative aids travelers daily with finding ideal dining options, booking the perfect place to stay and helping plan activities. When asked, “what question do you get most often?” Ms. Patricia laughed and answered with “Are Ben and Erin coming by today?”

The Napier family is adored throughout Laurel and beyond, so it makes sense that guests want to say hello to the cheerful couple that lights up their television screens each week.

To receive the best “Home Town” fan experience, visitors may explore places like the Laurel Mercantile, The Scent Library and Scotsman General Store and Woodshop to get a glimpse of filming locations and even purchase items that were featured on the show. Also, when you visit the Scotsman, you even may get to see Ben and his friends working on a custom piece for a future homeowner through the Woodshop viewing window. What’s more? The front desk at the Visitor Center was custom built by the HGTV “Home Town” stars! That’s all the more reason to start your trip there.

(Please note: The Napiers are very much active members of their beloved community and also film their show all around Laurel.  If you are lucky enough to cross paths with them around town, please be respectful of their time and space. Also be mindful and considerate of what they are doing, especially if they are with their children or others.)

Ms. Patricia has a full schedule, providing top-tier customer service to everyone who walks in the Visitor Center door or gives them a call, but we had to ask one last question. “What do you love most about Laurel?” Her answer will warm your heart.

“I love the progress of the businesses, how the economy has grown for the best. It makes it a place you want to live,” she muses, her smile evident through the phone. “When people come here and tell me how the people of Laurel have treated them, they always say they've never met such friendly people.”

The “kindness of strangers,” as Ms. Patricia says, is abundant in Laurel. She notes that often visitors are “blown away by the hospitality” of the locals. It never fails to make her day when people gush to her over the welcoming faces that can be found across town.

Come experience the joy of Laurel, Mississippi for yourself! The neighborly helpers at the Visitor Center can’t wait to greet you. Learn more about the Laurel-Jones County Visitor Center and have a chat with one of the representatives today, by calling 601.399.6644 or stopping by 601 Leontyne Price Blvd.

Readily available are informational pamphlets and maps of local attractions, and there is an interactive kiosk that allows you to customize an itinerary for your stay. Other amenities include Wi-Fi, restrooms, RV parking and hookups, an enclosed dog park, a vending machine and water fountain. The facility is also wheelchair accessible.

The City of Laurel would like to thank our partners who helped make the new Visitor Center possible: Laurel Housing Authority, Jones County Board of Supervisors, Economic Development Authority of Jones County, Laurel Garden Club, Laurel Main Street, Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, RTR Media and architect for the project, Michael McKinnon Architects

If you’re a grill master, we suggest stopping by The Knight Butcher to pick up prime cuts for your vacation. Fill your cooler with Mississippi’s finest meats and grab a bag or two of delicious jerky and sugary fudge!

For the little ones, pick up a road trip activity to keep them entertained in the car from the Laurel Mercantile. Here, you can choose from books to read, coloring options, puzzles and so much more. These memorable souvenirs will be a life-saver for kiddos during a long car ride!

If you’re a fan of HGTV’s “Home Town,” perhaps stop by the Scotsman General Store & Woodshop for a peak at Ben’s spectacular woodwork! Since you’re here, take advantage of the snowball stand and glass bottled sodas available on site while you give your legs a good stretch.

We know that while you’re in town, you’ll want your family to feel rested and refreshed before the big game. Upon arrival, check into one of our many cozy lodging accommodations. Rest your head at the Hampton Inn and Suites. This is a great option for large teams or families all looking to stay in the same place. After a tranquil night, join your crew for complimentary breakfast before heading out to the game!

Another excellent option is The Buzzard’s Roost. These thoughtfully designed rooms show off the charm of Laurel. Conveniently, their restaurant is located right down stairs, so you won’t have to travel far to grab a bite to eat at the end of your busy day.

Dine Like a Champion

In between games, come fill your plate with local favorite dishes from all the exquisite eateries Laurel has to offer. For lunch, check out Pearl’s Diner, featured on HGTV’s “Home Town,” for quality comfort cuisine and unbeatable southern hospitality.

After a full day of play in the hot Mississippi sun, carbs are your friend! We can’t think of a better place to chow down than Mimmo’s Ristorante Pizzeria. A cheesy slice of victory is exactly what your sports star needs to finish off the day. Choose from endless pies and pastas so good, you won’t even need a to-go box…but we don’t blame you for ordering extra to snack on later.

Personally, we think a sweet treat is always the best way to celebrate after a game well played. Indulge in a hot and fresh goodie from Garcia’s Donuts, or perhaps cool off with a signature snocone from Betsy’s On Magnolia.

For a healthier alternative to replenish your energy, we recommend stopping by Xtreme Nutrition for a creamy protein shake or chilled refresher. These are also great options for spectators to have on hand while watching your little ones shoot, score and slide during their games!

Playing off the Field

In between games, cool off with one of our indoor attractions! Roll on over to Country Lanes Entertainment Center for a strikingly good time. Bowl with your buddies as you take on this awesome team building opportunity.

Next, head over to Sawmill Square Mall and browse a few of your favorite retailers. While you’re here, swing by Hibbett Sporting Goods and Foot Locker to grab any game day essentials you may have forgotten.

To the moms, dads and other family members who have been cheering on the team all day, we think you deserve to treat yourself to a special souvenir. Ladies, check out  Hand + Made for a vast selection of gifts and decor to take home. You can even grab a glass of sweet lemonade to sip while you shop and beat that ballgame heat.

Gentlemen, a trip to The Knight Butcher will help you fill your snack pack up to the brim with tender beef jerky. Snag a Yeti Rambler to keep your drinks cool and a hat to protect your face from the sun.

As you explore Laurel’s attractions between games, we encourage you to make the most of your trip by adding these fantastic stops to your itinerary. With so much to see and do, there’s no shortage of fun to be had in Laurel, both on and off the field.
