Greetings,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the official website of the city of Laurel. Many hours have gone into developing this site just for you, so I hope you can navigate around it with ease because we want to be able to serve you as efficiently as possible.

If you are a resident of the Laurel- Jones County area then you are probably aware of most of the things we have for you to enjoy in our city, but if you are a visitor and we have never been blessed with your presence, we invite you to take time to experience our very special southern hospitality and flavor.

We offer many forms of recreation in our city from several neighborhood parks which have areas with barbeque grills, swimming, baseball, tennis, basketball, soccer, and football, or to just sit down and relax. Our magnificent Sportsplex is located on Hwy 84 W where we offer you baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, a splash pad, an Olympic-sized natatorium, nature trails, and many other amenities. We also have two private golf courses for your relaxation and enjoyment. Laurel boasts many unique shopping venues that you can experience like nowhere else; we have delicious food offerings and many specialty shops. All these merchants await the opportunity to serve you with a smile.

If you fancy the arts and museums, we have the world-renowned Lauren Rogers Museum of Art located on 5th Avenue. The well-maintained and respectful Veterans’ Museum is on Hillcrest Drive off Hwy 84 W, and we also have a War Memorial which lists the names of Jones County residents who gave their all for their country; it is located adjacent to the Laurel-Jones County Library. The Laurel Little Theater is located across the street from City Hall and presents superb musicals throughout the year for your enjoyment.

If you are able to visit in person you cannot afford to miss the architecture and craftsmanship of the homes in our historic district and also the grand commercial buildings in our growing historic downtown. If you like downtown living, we have some very unique loft apartments throughout the Central Business District. We want to put on our best face for you at all times so that whenever you choose to visit us the welcome sign will be out. We hope that if you are looking to relocate to our area that you would explore some of the excellent choices in homes that are for sale in our city.

Laurel has some of the best-trained physicians and most up-to-date medical facilities anywhere in the state, and we have the specialized care that you require to continue with your best in healthcare.

Please take some time to get to know us, and when you do I promise you will like us – we are an infectious community!

Sincerely,

Johnny Magee

Mayor

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
