Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Christy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from Arizona State University and her Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from California State University Northridge. Her professional journey began in New York City, where she worked for Delta Airlines with aspirations of building a career in airline marketing. After several years of crisscrossing the country, Christy relocated to Los Angeles, California, where she joined Walt Disney Feature Animation. During her time at Disney, she held various roles, including Recruiter and Special Events Coordinator for the Recruitment Department.
Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, Christy transitioned into education. She served in both public and private schools as an elementary and middle school educator. Recognizing the need for innovative approaches in 21st-century education, she secured a grant in 2014 to open her own private school in Malibu, California. Starting her own school was no small feat—it required hard work, focused dedication, and strong community collaboration.
As co-founder of Sycamore School, Christy played an integral role in its growth and public presence. From planning community events and open houses, writing articles, co-producing a podcast, and speaking at national conferences, she discovered a deep passion for storytelling and public engagement. These experiences naturally led her into the field of public relations.
In 2020, Christy and her husband began splitting their time between Los Angeles and Laurel for his work. They quickly fell in love with the community and decided to make Laurel their permanent home. Christy remains committed to education and currently serves on the boards of both The Sycamore School in Malibu and the Central Creativity Foundation in Laurel.
Public Relations is the management of relationships between an organization and its key publics. Key publics for the City of Laurel include residents, employees, members of the local media, elected officials, business and property owners, visitors, local civic organizations, external governmental organizations such as the Laurel School District, and the city’s contract partners such as A1 McDuffie and Veolia.
The City of Laurel works to engage these publics by maintaining a robust online presence that includes a website and several social media accounts, developing and maintaining strong relationships with local media outlets and several civic organizations, and responding to the concerns and inquiries of residents, visitors, and other members of the public.
