General Information on Laurel Municipal Elections

March 26, 2025

April 1, 2025 is the Primary election day for contested races in the municipal election for the Laurel City Council.

The only primary elections scheduled for April 1 will be for Wards 5, 6, and 7. These wards have more than one Democratic candidate vying for the councilperson position. The winner of the primary election in these wards wins the election and will not face an opponent in the general election on June 3, 2025.

In Ward 3, there is no primary election as there is one political party candidate (republican) and one independent candidate. Both of these candidates for Ward 3 go straight to the June 3 general election when the winner will be determined.

The mayoral election will be held on June 3, 2025. There will be no mayoral primary election because Mayor Johnny Magee is the sole candidate affiliated with a political party. All other mayoral candidates are running as independents. All four mayoral candidates go straight to the June 3 general election. The mayoral candidate receiving the most votes in the general election is the winner; there is no runoff after the June 3 general election.

Please contact the Laurel City Clerk’s office at 601-428-6404 if you have any questions about the election.

As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
