New Children’s Clinic Opened in Laurel

January 24, 2022

On Friday, January 21st at 4:00 p.m. members of the community and the Jones County Chamber of Commerce gathered to celebrate the opening of Children’s Specialty Clinic of Laurel. The clinic founded by psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, Jessica McKinnon, PMHNP and Julie Emfinger, PMHNP, will specialize in diagnostics and medication management for children and adolescents with mental health conditions including ADHD and ADD, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, depression, mood dysregulation disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, tic disorder, and psychotic disorders.

“This has been a long time coming,” McKinnon said prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony. “We are both special needs mamas and we are providing special needs care. We don’t take this job lightly and we thank you for your support.” In addition to thanking the community for their support, McKinnon also recognized local artist Sarah Boger for creating the murals inside the clinic.

The clinic is currently taking appointments for the first week in March when they will begin seeing patients. To schedule, or for more information, parents or guardians can call 601.778.7979.

The Children’s Specialty Clinic of Laurel is located at 2110 Suite A on Sandy Lane in Laurel next to the Champ’s Club Skating Rink.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
