Rev. Steve Wade Leads Devotion and Prayer at City Hall

February 11, 2025

On Wednesday, February 5th, at 9 a.m., Rev. Steve Wade, pastor at Franklin Methodist Church, visited City Hall to provide a special devotion and prayer service for the city’s employees. His message was simple but profound, urging everyone to "Love God and to Love Each Other.”

During his time at City Hall, Rev. Wade expressed his deep appreciation for the work that city employees do every day, acknowledging that much of their efforts go unnoticed. "We love Laurel and we love the folks that serve Laurel," he said, praising their hard work. He went on to describe Laurel as a "shining example of how an old city can be revived," emphasizing the positive changes the city has undergone in recent years. “Much of what you do here is unappreciated,” he said. “So, we want to thank you for what you do.”

After his prayer, Rev. Wade read from Psalm 23, offering words of comfort and guidance to those present. He also took a moment to anoint each individual with oil as a symbol of blessing and dedication.

Church members who attended the service included Kay Harrison, Betty Little, and David Roberts.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
