Sanctity of Life Event held in Laurel

January 21, 2022

In honor of Sanctity of Human Life month, Choices Clinic of Laurel held a special event at the Jones County Courthouse at noon on Friday, January 14th. Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee opened the event by stating that “When we really do realize the sanctity and blessedness of each and every human life, this world will be closer to what God wants it to be.”

The event also featured an address from pro-life advocate Anja Baker who spoke about pending pro-life legislation from Mississippi that will be decided upon by the Supreme Court later this year.

Brittany Sherman, RN of Choices Clinic also spoke about the services provided to the community by the organization which include free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, abortion recovery services, and the distribution of baby items such as formula, diapers, clothing, and car seats. She encouraged guests to commit to making monthly donations to the clinic and to make sure that their churches have booked a speaker from the clinic to come share information about their services to the congregation.

The clinic is expecting to launch a new website later this year that will make getting information, making donations, and applying to volunteer much easier.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
