Work on 15th Avenue Project Begins

April 15, 2024

The intersection at North 15th Avenue and 3rd Street will be closed until further notice as work crews complete multiple improvements in the area. The work will include water main replacement, sewer main replacement and/or rehabilitation, water and sewer service replacements and stormwater drainage improvements. The existing street will be replaced with asphalt paving. This work marks the beginning of a project to complete such upgrades to the water, sewer, and drainage systems on 15th Avenue from Congress Street to 12th Street. The project has been made possible by ARPA grant funding received by the city in 2022.

The City of Laurel, established as a lumber town in 1882, is conveniently situated approximately two hours from larger destination cities such as Jackson, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Mobile. In recent years, the city has become a destination all its own thanks, in part, to its starring role in HGTV’s popular “Hometown” series. As Laurel, and interest in it, continues to grow, we are committed to providing the resources necessary to help all of our residents and businesses reach their full potential.
